Kestrel Forex EA Settings and Set Files by Level

The forex EA settings that matter in Kestrel live in its set files, and a set file decides only three things: which variant runs on that chart, which lot level it runs at, and the spread guard and drawdown alert around it. The strategy itself is fixed and is not a setting — there is no lot-size ceiling to configure; the basket's own step table is what bounds each addition.

Forex EA settings by level: worst case in euros for each Kestrel portfolio at Horizon, Summit and Zenith
Worst case by portfolio and level. Simulated on Dukascopy data: EURUSD and AUDCAD to September 2026, GBPUSD to December 2025, EURCAD from January 2014. Worst case is the larger of the worst floating loss and the largest drop from an equity peak, in euros at fixed rates.

One set file per chart

Each chart runs one variant with one preset, so the number of set files an account loads is the number of charts, not the number of pairs: a pair can run Patient, Active or both at once, each on its own chart. You choose your pairs, then Patient, Active or both for each; the three published portfolios are the combinations with a public record.

PortfolioChartsVariants loaded
K32AUDCAD Patient · EURUSD Patient
K12AUDCAD Active · EURUSD Patient
Full portfolio3AUDCAD Patient · AUDCAD Active · EURUSD Patient

Patient adds to a basket less often and holds a smaller worst case; Active adds more often, returned more in the backtest and reached a larger worst case. Same rules, same basket close.

A licence ships the set files for all four pairs — EURUSD, GBPUSD, EURCAD and AUDCAD — in both variants at the level you license, so changing pairs later does not mean buying again.

Loading one is the ordinary MetaTrader 4 procedure: attach the expert advisor to the right pair chart, open the Inputs tab and load the preset that matches that chart. How to Install an Expert Advisor on MT4 covers the steps around it.

What a level changes

A level is a lot scaling rule and nothing else. Horizon starts at 0.01 lots, Summit at five times that and Zenith at ten times that; profit and loss scale by the same five and ten.

Choose the level whose recommended capital matches your account.

The capital each level assumes

For a single record the recommended figure is three times its worst case — the larger of the worst floating loss and the deepest drop from an equity peak — and for a portfolio it is the recommendations of its records added up. Simulated on Dukascopy data, euros at fixed rates, each record on its own window.

PortfolioHorizonSummitZenith
K3€22,500€112,500€225,000
K1€28,800€144,000€288,000
Full portfolio€42,800€214,000€428,000

These are recommendations, not conditions of the licence. The full derivation is on Kestrel EA Risk Management and Capital for MT4 Portfolios.

Running a level below the capital it was sized against does not reduce the loss. It reduces the room the account has to sit through one.

What the set file does not contain

The entry, addition and exit rules are part of the expert advisor itself, not customer inputs, so no set file can turn Patient into Active or change how a basket closes. A preset selects the chart’s pair, variant, level, and a spread guard and drawdown alert — nothing more. There is no lot-size ceiling to set: what bounds each addition is the step table built into the strategy itself, the same one behind every published record.

The licence includes the expert advisor, every set file for your level, free updates while the licence is active, a private Telegram group for clients and email support at info@gridexpertadvisor.com. How they reach you follows the purchase confirmation, sent by email or Telegram.

Frequently asked questions

What is a set file in MetaTrader 4?

A saved list of an expert advisor's inputs, loaded from the Inputs tab when you attach the robot to a chart. It saves typing every value by hand and makes two terminals identical.

Does a higher level change how the strategy trades?

No. Summit and Zenith multiply the starting lot by five and by ten. The rules are the same at all three levels; the level changes the licence scale and the account sizing.

Can I edit the values in a set file?

The values that decide entries and exits are part of the expert advisor itself rather than customer inputs, so a set file cannot change them. What a set file selects is the variant, the level, and the spread guard and drawdown alert around it — there is no lot-size ceiling among those settings.
