Kestrel Hedging and Basket EA for MT4

Kestrel Hedging and Basket EA runs buy baskets and sell baskets on the same pair in MetaTrader 4 — that is what hedging means on this platform. It is not market-neutral and it does not cap a loss: in the K3 record (2010 to September 2026, Dukascopy data, simulated) the worst floating loss was −€3,704 at fixed exchange rates on 22 October 2012. This page shows what is hedged, what is not, and what it cost.

Two baskets of positions balanced on a single beam

Drawdown of the K3 portfolio run by the Kestrel hedging and basket EA for MT4, 2010 to 2022
K3 (AUDCAD Patient + EURUSD Patient), backtest 2010 to September 2026 simulated on Dukascopy data — the 2026 months on a different data feed — Horizon level. Percent below the running equity peak. Worst floating loss −€3,704 on 22 October 2012, euros at fixed rates. Simulated, not a real account.

Baskets, not bets

Kestrel EA is a grid expert advisor for MetaTrader 4: it opens from its own signal, adds to the basket in small, capped steps when price moves against it, and closes the whole basket together at its target. It never closes a single trade at a loss; until the basket closes, the loss is floating.

A basket is one idea with additions, not a row of independent trades. Like the kestrel that hangs still in the wind before it strikes, the software holds the whole basket calmly and closes it once.

What is hedged and what is not

Hedged: the exposure can sit on both sides of the same pair at once, which is why the account must allow hedging.

Not hedged: the loss. Opposite baskets do not cancel each other, there is no stop loss, and a basket that is wrong floats until it reaches its target. The measured cost of that is on this page, with dates.

The record behind the baskets

Simulated on Dukascopy data, Horizon level, euros at fixed rates; returns are on each record’s recommended capital:

PortfolioPeriodReturnWorst floating lossCapital we recommend
K3 (AUDCAD Patient + EURUSD Patient)2010 – Sep 2026+268%−€3,704, 22 Oct 2012€22,500
Full portfolio (all three variants)2010 – Sep 2026+344%−€6,165, 4 Mar 2016€42,800

This is measured, not claimed: the two records in K3 never shared one of their ten worst days in the sample; K1, which runs AUDCAD Active, shared one of ten. For a portfolio, the capital we recommend is the individual recommendations added up. A worse episode than any in the record remains possible. Beyond the backtest, the software has run on two demo accounts since September 2026 — a forward test on demo, not a real account.

What you combine

You choose your pairs — one to four of EURUSD, GBPUSD, EURCAD and AUDCAD — then Patient, Active or both for each. Patient adds to a basket less often and holds a smaller worst case; Active adds more often, returned more in the backtest and reached a larger worst case. Same rules, same basket close.

The level question

Horizon (0.01 starting lot) €999 a year, Summit (×5) €4,999, Zenith (×10) €9,999, VAT included — the level scales the size, never the rules. For K3, the recommended capital is €22,500 at Horizon, €112,500 at Summit and €225,000 at Zenith, always a recommendation, never a condition.

At the worst moment of the K3 backtest, 13.31 open lots used €1,812 of margin at 1:500, a 516% margin level against the recommended capital. The full method: Kestrel EA Risk Management and Capital for MT4 Portfolios.

Setting up the baskets

  3. Buy the annual licence on Kestrel Forex Robot Price and Licence Levels.
  4. Install on MetaTrader 4, on a hedging account, on a VPS, and load the set files of your level.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a hedging account?

Yes. The expert advisor can hold a buy basket and a sell basket on the same pair at once, so the broker has to allow opposite positions on one symbol. An account under no-hedging or FIFO rules cannot run it.

Does holding both sides remove the risk?

No. The two sides do not cancel out; each basket carries its own floating loss until it closes at its target. In the K3 backtest of 2010 to 2022, simulated, the worst floating loss was €3,704 on 22 October 2012 at fixed exchange rates.

Do the two currency pairs fall on the same days?

Not in the measured sample. Across 2010 to 2022 the daily worst-float series of AUDCAD Patient and EURUSD Patient correlated at −0.004 and shared none of their ten worst days.
