Kestrel Martingale EA for MT4 With Controlled Lot Growth
Kestrel Martingale EA is a very controlled take on the martingale idea for MetaTrader 4: additions with a small, capped increase in lot size, inside a worst case that is measured and dated, not hoped for. In the K1 record (2010 to September 2026, Dukascopy data, simulated) the worst floating loss was −€4,701 on 14 February 2011 at fixed exchange rates. This page shows the worst moments first, then what you choose.

Is Kestrel a martingale?
In structure, yes: when price moves against an open basket, the expert advisor adds positions with a growing lot. In behaviour, it is the controlled one: the increase per addition is small and capped, the basket closes together at one target, and the worst case is a measurement, not a surprise.
Kestrel EA is a grid expert advisor for MetaTrader 4: it opens from its own signal, adds to the basket in small, capped steps when price moves against it, and closes the whole basket together at its target. It never closes a single trade at a loss; until the basket closes, the loss is floating.
Like the kestrel that hangs still in the wind before it strikes, it holds the position calmly instead of cutting it — and the hold has a published price, below.
The worst moments, dated
Simulated on Dukascopy data, Horizon level, euros at fixed rates:
| Portfolio | Worst floating loss | Deepest fall from an equity peak |
|---|---|---|
| EURUSD Patient, 2010 – Sep 2026 | −€2,788, 21 Aug 2024 | €2,788 |
| K3, 2010 – Sep 2026 | −€3,704, 22 Oct 2012 | €3,647 |
| K1, 2010 – Sep 2026 | −€4,701, 14 Feb 2011 | €4,650 |
| Full portfolio, 2010 – Sep 2026 | −€6,165, 4 Mar 2016 | €6,114 |
The float and the fall are two different measurements and neither is ever substituted for the other. There is also a balance below which the broker closes this strategy for you — we publish it for both common account types, for every pair and every combination, on Kestrel EA Risk Management and Capital for MT4 Portfolios — and what we recommend is several times that balance. A worse episode than any in the record remains possible. Beyond the backtest, the software has run on two demo accounts since September 2026 — a forward test on demo, not a real account.
What happens if you start on the worst possible day
We opened a simulated account at every hour of the sixteen-year GBPUSD record, with the capital we recommend: every one of those starts survived to the end, in both variants. Below the recommendation, start dates appear that do not — which is exactly what the recommendation is for.
What you choose
- Pairs: EURUSD, GBPUSD, EURCAD and AUDCAD — choose your pairs, one to four in the same account, then Patient, Active or both for each.
- Variant: Patient adds to a basket less often and holds a smaller worst case; Active adds more often, returned more in the backtest and reached a larger worst case. Same rules, same basket close.
- Published portfolios: K3 (AUDCAD Patient + EURUSD Patient), K1 (AUDCAD Active + EURUSD Patient), Full portfolio (all three).
What each level assumes
Horizon (0.01 starting lot) €999 a year, Summit (×5) €4,999, Zenith (×10) €9,999, VAT included. For a single record the recommended capital is three times its worst case; for a portfolio, the recommendations of its records added up: from €8,500 (EURUSD Patient) to €42,800 (the Full portfolio) at Horizon, five times that at Summit and ten at Zenith — a recommendation, never a condition.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a classic martingale?
No. A classic martingale doubles the stake until the account breaks. Kestrel adds in small, capped steps and closes the whole basket at one target, and its worst case is published with dates instead of left as an unknown.
What is the worst it has cost?
In the K1 record of 2010 to September 2026, simulated at Horizon level and fixed exchange rates, the worst floating loss was €4,701 on 14 February 2011 and the deepest fall from an equity peak was €4,650. Two different measurements, each published as its own.
Is there a stop loss?
No basket closes at a loss, because there is no stop loss: the loss floats until the basket closes at its target. That is why the recommended capital is three times the published worst case.
